The USGBC recently interviewed CEO and Founder, Chris Schaffner, on The Green Engineer's efforts to combat systemic racism, as part the USGBC's broader look at DEI in the green building industry.
“I came out of that thinking that there’s no middle ground,” says Schaffner, whose firm is headquartered in Concord, Massachusetts. “It’s the idea that you either are working to end racism, or you are part of the problem. That was my own personal epiphany around that, but I think it’s allowed us as a firm to embrace anti-racism as a key part of our mission and include that in our definition of sustainability.”
