TGE Celebrates Achieving WELL Health Equity Rating for Our Office!

We are proud to announce that TGE has achieved the prestigious WELL Health Equity Rating for our office space! This milestone underscores our commitment to fostering a healthy, inclusive, and equitable environment for all employees.

This recognition reflects our dedication to ensuring that everyone has access to the resources and support they need to thrive. We believe that a healthy workplace is not just about physical well-being, but also about creating an atmosphere where everyone feels valued and empowered.

As leading organizations continue to prioritize the health and safety of their employees and clients, it’s exciting to share that The Green Engineer has joined the movement. We are committed to building a better future, and we thank International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) for guiding us in achieving the WELL Equity Rating.

Why did The Green Engineer decide to pursue WELL Equity Rating? What were our objectives?

The Green Engineer, Inc has been an early adopter of the WELL Building Standard for our clients, with early success in helping deliver the first WELL v1 Gold certification in the US (second in the world) for New Construction project types. We have continued to fold health and wellness design consulting into our work, but our involvement with WELL has always been as a service. With the release of the WELL Equity Rating, we felt that our approach to employee wellbeing and long-standing commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion would stand upwell to the rating and that it would provide a framework for our improvement in those regards.

How does WELL align with the mission or values of our organization?

The Green Engineer’s mission is to effectively mitigate the adverse effects of the design and construction industry on individuals residing and operating within the built environment. We empower our clients with knowledge and resources to make in formed decisions prioritizing environmental stewardship, human health, and community well‐being. Together with our clients, we strive to build a sustainable future that supports the health and well‐being of individuals, communities, and the planet as a whole. WELL has been an instrumental part of this mission at TGE. We see IWBI’s suite of standards as best-in-class third-party standards for a building’s facilitation of its occupants’ health and well-being.

How did our team approach the WELL Equity Rating process, and work together to achieve your WELL goals?

The Green Engineer approached the WELL Equity Rating certification process much like we do when dealing with our clients and project consulting services. Further, we have along track record of equity and inclusion: we practice business transparency with open-book accounting. We are structured around equal employee ownership and profit sharing. We are one of only a few organizations in Massachusetts that are both a Benefit Corporation (legal business entity) and have been a top performing B-Corp certified business having been awarded B Lab’s “Best for the World” for 6consecutive years of the 10 year program until its end in 2023, which is awarded to the top 5% of certified B Corps. We also participate in the International Living Future Institute’s JUST label transparency program. Working together towards the WELL Equity Rating’s organizational goals was not new for us, it was a natural advancement.

What are the most innovative or stand-out aspects of our WELL Equity Rating project?

The most innovative aspects of our WELL Equity Rating project would have to be our improved connection to nature and place. We sought out to incorporate art from local artists and a connection to nature through biophilia. The commercial office complex we reside in, The Bradford Mill, is fairly unique in that it hosts a range of business types and artists in its community – commercial offices neighboring art studios neighboring boutique manufacturing. By establishing an art rental program with ArtScape Studios – specifically their artists depicting nature in various mediums, we were able to collaborate in the connection of our office space to our community and nature.
